Box Score The Hamilton College men's soccer team rallied twice to post a 2-2 tie against the host Tufts Jumbos in a NESCAC game Sunday in Medford, Mass. The double-overtime deadlock kept the Continentals atop the NESCAC standings with a 4-1-1 conference record.
Hamilton (5-3-1 overall) held the Jumbos (4-3-2, 2-1-2 NESCAC) scoreless over the final 92 minutes of play. Harris Pollack '17 made eight saves in net.
After Tufts took the lead on an sixth-minute goal, the visitors tied the score less than five minutes later when Mike Lubelczyk '17 tallied an unassisted goal. The goal was his second of the season and the fourth of his career.
Luke Eckels '20 tied the game for a second time late in the opening period. A shot by Alec Talsania '17 was saved by Tufts goaltender Bruce Johnson and Eckels turned the rebound into his first collegiate goal.
Overtime saw the Jumbos taking five shots in the first session and the Continentals taking two in the second 10 minutes -- including one that Johnson saved.
Johnson posted seven saves for the Jumbos, who had beaten defending NCAA champion Amherst 3-0 Saturday. Tufts outshot the Continentals 20-14.
Kevin Lawson opened the scoring for the hosts, converting a cross that Kevin Halliday sent into the middle of the penalty box after receiving a long lead pass from Zach Halladay. The Jumbos regained their advantage in the 18th minute when Daniel Sullivan headed in a goal off a free kick by Kevin Halliday.
The Jumbos had nearly scored three minutes earlier when Zachary Trevorrow fired a pair of shots, with one hitting the post.
Johnson made a pair of quality saves for the Jumbos midway through the first -- on a Lubelczyk header in the 27th minute and a drive by Talsania five minutes later.
Eckels nearly put the Continentals ahead three minutes into the second half, but his shot was turned aside by Johnson. Pollack made three crucial saves between the 66th and 74th minutes, while Johnson denied Rowan Myers '19 in the 71st minute and Killian Clancy '18 during the 80th minute.
Hamilton plays a 2:30 p.m. NESCAC game at Amherst Saturday. The defending national champions are ranked fourth in this week's national coaches poll.
