Box Score Hamilton College's Eva Rosencrans '17 scored two goals and the Continentals posted a 3-0 NESCAC victory against the nationally ranked No. 19 Williams College Ephs at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Tuesday.
The Continentals (7-4, 5-3 NESCAC) won for the sixth time in their last seven games and improved to 3-1 against ranked teams this year. Hamilton is receiving votes in the latest Division III Top 20 coaches poll.
Williams (7-4, 3-3) owned a four-game win streak and was 5-1 away from home going into today. The Ephs, who were without leading scorer Alex Bennett and her 25 points, were shut out for the first time this year.
Rosencrans leads the Continentals with 11 goals and 25 points. She recorded the 13th multi-goal game of her Hamilton career and has now scored against every NESCAC team except Bowdoin, which happens to be the Continentals' next opponent on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon.
Julia Booth '19 tied a season high with 10 saves for the Continentals. Booth posted her second shutout this year and the fourth of her career. She lowered her goals against average to 1.90 and raised her save percentage to .781.
After a slow start in which neither team recorded a shot until nearly nine minutes had passed, Hamilton dominated the rest of the first half. With about 22 minutes left, Michaela Giuttari '20 gained possession of the ball near midfield and passed ahead to Rosencrans, who was sprinting down the middle in Williams' defensive side. She carried the ball into the circle, maneuvered around a defender to the right side and hammered a shot from about eight yards out into the back of the cage with 21:48 left.
Willliams wasn't credited with its first shot until there was about 12:45 remaining in the half. The Continentals enjoyed a 13-3 shot advantage and were awarded five penalty corners to just one for the Ephs in the opening 35 minutes. Margaret Draper kept Williams in it with nine stops, including a spectacular sliding save to her left on a shot by Sarah Stinebaugh '19 that Draper kicked away with about 18 minutes to go.
The Ephs were ready to go after the break as they registered a corner and three shots in the opening 2:16 of the second half. Their momentum was crushed a few minutes later when Giuttari moved in on a breakaway and was tripped from behind by a defender just a few yards from the cage. A penalty stroke was awarded and Rosencrans flipped a shot inside the right post that settled into the netting with 29:17 left.
Hamilton clinched the win with 10:40 remaining following its only corner in the second half. Emma Anderson '17 inserted the ball and it eventually found its way to Lizzie Clarke '20, who passed to her left to Margaret Revera '18. Revera loaded up and blasted a shot from near the edge of the circle for her first goal this year and the fifth of her collegiate career. Clarke's assist was her first for the Continentals.
Giuttari nearly made it a four-goal game less than two minutes later but Caroline Taverna cleared the ball off the line from near the left post. Williams owned the statistical edge in the second half with a 14-5 shot advantage and a 6-1 cushion in penalty corners. Draper finished with 11 saves.
Hamilton hosts the No. 2 Polar Bears this Saturday. The Ephs return home for a NESCAC game against Wesleyan on Saturday at 11 a.m.
