BOSTON – Hamilton College athletes won five singles and a pair of doubles matches at the Boston University Men's Tennis Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20.
The Continentals competed against players from Siena College, Stonehill College, Babson College and Merrimack College. Doubles matches were played on Saturday and singles matches were played on Sunday.
Lleyton Mendieta '28 rallied for a three-set victory against Stonehill's Hayden Grech and paired with
Mohammed Zahaan Siddiqui '30 for a 6-3 win in doubles against Siena's Emilio Salinas and Santiago Trujillo.
Charlie Sternberg '27 also was a winner in singles and doubles. Sternberg came from behind and prevailed in three sets against Stonehill's Javier Gutierrez, and he partnered with
Shabad Singh '30 for a 6-3 triumph against Siena's Bruno Varella and Matteo Castellazi.
Alexei Katelevsky '29 defeated Siena's Mars Argun in straight sets,
Filip Moller '29 edged Babson's Louis Bourn in a third set super-tiebreaker, and
Akshat Dhull '29 was declared the winner after Babson's Rishi Batlanki retired from their match early in the second set. Dhull won the first set and was trailing 2-1 in the second when Batlanki couldn't continue.
Hamilton competes in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championships, which is hosted by Skidmore College, from Sept. 25 through Sept. 28.
