WORCESTER, Mass. – The Hamilton College Continentals finished in fourth place in the men's varsity eights and the men's second varsity eights races in Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Class of 2003 Cup held on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday morning, April 4.
Racing conditions included a moderate tailwind with a floating start on the non-buoyed course. Hamilton was ranked 11
th in the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association/Intercollegiate Rowing Association Division III V8+ Top 15 preseason poll.
The Continentals posted a time of 6:07.87 in the varsity eights race on the 2,000-meter course. Nationally ranked No. 2 Wesleyan University was the race winner in 5:48.67 and was followed by No. 7 Colby College (5:56.67) and No. 8 WPI (6:04.27). Vassar College ended up in fifth place (6:17.17).
Hamilton recorded a time of 6:34.74 in the second varsity eights race. Wesleyan (6:00.9) edged Colby (6:02.9) for the top spot and WPI (6:22.9) finished a distant third.
The Continentals host Rochester Institute of Technology, Skidmore College and Middlebury College on the Erie Canal on Saturday, April 11. Racing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
