SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals finished in sixth place in the varsity eight grand final at the 2026 New York State Collegiate Championships on Fish Creek on Saturday, April 18.
Hamilton is ranked ninth in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Top 15 poll. The regatta also included No. 6 Smith College, No. 7 William Smith College, No. 12 Ithaca College, No. 13 University of Rochester and No. 14 Skidmore College.
The Continentals took second place in their morning heat of the varsity eight with a time of 7:27.583 and Division I Colgate University was first in 7:18.160. A little more than seven seconds was all that separated the boats that finished second through fifth as Ithaca (third), Rochester Institute of Technology (fourth) and Vassar College (fifth) followed Hamilton.
In the afternoon final, Colgate once again finished first (7:07.800) and Marist University was runner-up. Smith was the top Division III finisher in third place and William Smith was fourth. University at Albany landed in fifth place and the Continentals rounded out the group with a time of 7:41.782.
Hamilton also had a strong showing in the second varsity eight. The Continentals took the top spot in the morning heat with a time of 7:26.680 and Colgate was right behind in 7:29.023. Ithaca (third), St. Lawrence University (fourth) and RIT (fifth) were also in Hamilton's heat.
The afternoon final featured the same field as the varsity eight, but with schools finishing in different places. Marist was the winner in 7:37.300 and followed by William Smith, Colgate, Albany, the Continentals (fifth place in 7:54.532) and Smith.
Hamilton grabbed second place out of five entries with a time of 7:55.165 in the third varsity eight race, which was held in the morning. Smith's 'A' entry was first in 7:46.670 and the rest of the group was William Smith (third), Smith 'B' (fourth) and Marist (fifth).
The Continentals captured second place out of five entries in 9:37.414 in the novice fours, which was raced in the afternoon. Long Island University edged Hamilton with a time of 9:33.350, Rochester was third, Nazareth University was fourth and St. John Fisher University didn't finish.
The Continentals compete in a regatta hosted by Williams College on Lake Onota in Pittsfield, Mass., on Saturday, April 25.
