Services for former women's hockey coach McNamara set for Oct. 11 and 12

McNamara guided the team to 22 wins and the NCAA semifinals in 2022-23

The Hamilton College Athletic Department offers its deepest condolences and warmest thoughts to family and friends of Emily "Mac" McNamara, who was the beloved and legendary head women's ice hockey coach at Hamilton from 2012 to 2023, as they prepare to honor her memory in southern New Hampshire where McNamara grew up.

McNamara passed away on September 11 from injuries sustained in a March automobile accident. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home in Hampton, N.H. McNamara's funeral mass will be Monday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at Saint Theresa Church in Rye, N.H.

McNamara won 135 games and two NESCAC Coach of the Year awards at Hamilton. Her final season in 2022-23 was the best in team history as the Continentals finished with a record of 22-6-2 and advanced to the NCAA championship semifinals, and McNamara was named the American Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coach of the Year.

More importantly, McNamara was well-respected by her coaching peers, her Middlebury College teammates and those who played for her. The scope and scale of the impact she made is nearly impossible to measure, but Hamilton's Spencer-Norbeck-McNamara Ice Hockey Development Fund and Middlebury's Oct. 3 ceremony posthumously appointing McNamara as its fifth head women's ice hockey coach are lasting examples of her enormous impact.
