Women's lacrosse wins after furious fourth quarter rally at Conn. College

Continentals scored six goals in the fourth quarter and went on to a 13-11 victory

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Hamilton College rattled off six goals in the fourth quarter and the Continentals rallied for a 13-11 NESCAC win against the Connecticut College Camels at Conn. College's Silfen Field on Saturday afternoon, April 19.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-8, 2-8 NESCAC) was victorious in its conference finale. The Continentals won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
  • The Camels (7-7, 2-7) lost for the fourth time in their last five games.
 

How It Happened

  • Hamilton trailed 10-7 entering the fourth quarter but Maddigan Leifer '26 scored on a free-position shot 52 seconds in.
  • Sarah Stonestreet '25 found Aine Cleary '25 for a goal that pulled the Continentals within one with 12:21 left. Kate Coughlin put Conn. College back up by two 56 seconds later.
  • A free-position goal by Julia Lee '27 made it 11-10 with 10:40 remaining and Leifer tied the score with 7:57 to go for the first time since it was 6-6 early in the third quarter.
  • Lee notched the game-winner on a pass from Stonestreet with 5:05 left, and Cleary added an insurance tally on a feed from Stonestreet 53 seconds later.
  • The Camels committed two turnovers and didn't get a shot off during the last four minutes. Conn. College's fate was sealed with 1:55 remaining when one of its players received a yellow card.
  • Hamilton led 3-1 after one quarter and 4-1 early in the second. Aine Downey gave the Camels a 5-4 edge with four straight goals, and Conn. College took a 6-5 advantage into the break.
  • Lee pulled the Continentals into a 6-6 tie with 11:39 to go, but the Camels ran off the next three goals for a 9-6 lead with 6:31 left in the third.
 

Notes

  • Cleary tied a season high with five points on three goals and two assists. She has 97 career goals.
  • Lee finished with three goals and an assist for her highest point total since she had six against SUNY Brockport on March 19.
  • Stonestreet tied a career best with four assists and leads Hamilton with 16 helpers.
  • Leifer ended up with three goals and tops the Continentals with 22 and 29 points.
  • Alex Orlando '25 came up with two goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Orlando leads the team with 28 ground balls.
  • Leyna Schlaefer '28 scored her fifth goal and Eugenia Kaltsas '26 registered her sixth this season. Kaltsas has scored a goal in four straight games.
  • Grace Martucci '28 caused three turnovers and won her first three draw controls this season.
  • Hamilton held a 9-2 shot advantage in the fourth quarter.
  • The Camels committed 24 turnovers.
  • Downey led all players with six goals and Campbell Johnston had five points on two goals and three assists. Ava Virga made 12 saves and scooped up six ground balls, and Sydney Weber won seven draws.
  • The Continentals won their 15th straight meeting with Conn. College – a streak that dates back to 1999.

Hamilton plays its season finale at Ithaca College (9-5 overall) on Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.
