GENESEO, N.Y. – Hamilton College scored the first 11 goals and the Continentals cruised to a 14-8 non-conference win against the SUNY Geneseo Knights at Geneseo's College Stadium on Wednesday, March 12.
Season Update
- Hamilton (1-2 overall) picked up its first win this season after opening with two losses against conference opponents.
- The Knights (1-4) are members of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference.
How It Happened
- The Continentals scored five goals in the first quarter, including one by Maddigan Leifer '26 with two seconds left.
- Hamilton scored five more times in the opening seven minutes of the second quarter and initiated the running clock. The Continentals led 10-0 at the half.
- Julia Lee '27 found Kristin Vosswinkel '27 for an 11-goal advantage 1:40 into the third quarter.
- Rosemary Mahoney finally broke the ice for Geneseo with 10:29 remaining in the third.
- Hamilton was able to maintain its double-digit cushion as Lily Goldsmith '28 scored midway through the quarter, and Lee found the back of the net with 1:02 to go. The Continentals owned a 13-2 lead after three quarters.
- Goldsmith notched another goal after a pass from Sarah Stonestreet '25 with 10:55 left in the fourth quarter. That tally put Hamilton up by 11 for the last time at 14-3.
- The Knights' Olivia Luchetti scored three straight goals and finally pulled Geneseo within nine again. Lucchini's outburst put an end to the running clock with 3:35 remaining. The Knights added two more goals in the final 86 seconds for the final margin.
Notes
- Head Coach Kaillie Kelly celebrated the first victory of her collegiate career.
- Aine Cleary '25 led the Continentals' offense with five points on three goals and two assists. Cleary added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Leifer chipped in three goals and an assist and tied a career high with four points.
- Lee recorded two goals, a helper and a career-best five draw controls.
- Stonestreet contributed a goal and two assists. She leads the team with four helpers.
- Goldsmith posted her first two collegiate goals.
- Vosswinkel scored her seventh career goal and won three draws.
- Alex Orlando '25 scored a goal for the second straight game.
- Eugenia Kaltsas '26 registered her second career goal.
- Avery Trach '27 had an assist and has a point in all three games. Trach caused two turnovers.
- Hamilton's Clara Paolucci '28 made three saves.
- Luchetti paced the Geneseo offense with three goals. Alaina Reina and Natalie Long added two apiece.
- Grace Geary scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers. Violet Piccinini corralled a game-high six draw controls.
- The Continentals held a 17-9 shot advantage in the first half. Hamilton scored on all four of its free-position shots in the opening 30 minutes.
- The teams last played each other in 2018 in Florida, where the Knights won 15-11.
