Women’s lacrosse drops home opener against Bates

Lee ’27, Trach ’27 and Leifer ’26 scored the goals for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Bates College's Caroline Taggart scored three goals and handed out two assists in the Bobcats' 11-3 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Withiam Field on a snowy Saturday morning, March 1. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton was playing its season opener. 
  • Bates (2-1, 1-0 NESCAC) has scored at least 11 goals in all three of its games.  

How It Happened

  • Hamilton took a 1-0 lead 4:21 into the first quarter on a free-position goal by Julia Lee '27.
  • The Continentals quickly doubled their lead 1:16 later on a goal by Avery Trach '27 that was set up by Lee.
  • Bates got on the board and cut its deficit in half with 2:29 remaining in the first when Taggart netted her first goal of the game.
  • The Bobcats netted the first three goals of the second stanza and took a 4-2 lead with 4:05 left. 
  • Maddigan Leifer '26 scored Hamilton's third and final goal just 43 seconds before halftime. 
  • Bates added two more goals in the third quarter for a 6-3 lead and sealed the victory with five goals in the fourth.

Notes

  • Lee recorded two points with her 29th career goal and third career assist. 
  • Trach tallied the ninth goal of her career and scooped up three ground balls. 
  • Leifer scored her 28th career goal. 
  • Carlisle West '25 had a team-best five caused turnovers and four ground balls.  
  • Alex Orlando '25 picked up four ground balls, while Sarah Stonestreet '25 and Elizabeth Rudge '27 had three apiece. 
  • Eliza Schwarz '27 started in goal for Hamilton and made one save. Clara Paolucci '28 relieved Schwarz at the start of the second half and made five stops. 
  • Caroline Keating led Bates with seven draws. 
  • Olivia Hall added a team-high five ground balls and five caused turnovers. 
  • Grace Cassin scooped up four ground balls. 
  • Raegan White made six saves in net for the Bobcats. 
  • Bates recorded 13 draws to Hamilton's five. 

Next Game

Hamilton faces Amherst College (0-1, 0-1) for its first NESCAC road game of the season on Saturday, March 8 at noon.
