SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Hamilton College's
Muhan Cui '28 won her first two matches in the singles draw at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Women's Northeast Regional Championships, which were held at Skidmore College on Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22.
Cui defeated Molly Jespersen of St. Lawrence University, who was seeded ninth through 16th, 6-1 and 6-4 in the first round. Cui went on to win a hard-fought battle in the second round, narrowly beating University of Rochester's Katie Yang, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. On Sunday morning Cui lost in the round of 16 against top-seeded Jimena Menendez of New York University, 6-1 and 6-3.
Grace Qian '27 also picked up a win in the first round, besting Ithaca College's Alys Pop 6-4, 6-3. Qian was knocked out of the singles competition by The College of New Jersey's Aira Abalos, who was seeded ninth through 16th, by scores of 6-4 and 6-2 in the second round.
In the doubles draw on Saturday, third seed
Hannah Apsey '25 and
Stephanie Pratt '25 secured an 8-5 victory against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Gauri Muliyil and Taylor Chandler in the first round. Unfortunately, Apsey and Pratt fell short of another win in the second round, losing 8-4 to New York University's Victoria Wang and Siona Vallabhaneni.
The Continentals wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with a non-conference dual match at Smith College on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
