Jim Tucci Cup for women's team points winner
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – All four Hamilton College boats earned medals at the 2023 New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships on Fish Creek on Saturday, May 6.

Nationally ranked No. 10 Hamilton collected a silver medal in the varsity eight, gold and bronze in the second varsity eight, and bronze in the varsity four. The performance earned the Continentals the Jim Tucci Cup for the women's team points trophy. Hamilton also won the overall team points trophy with the men for the first time in program history.

"The performance by the team garnered us the Jim Tucci Cup for all points trophy for a women's team," Head Coach James Lister said. "Jim Tucci is the longtime former Skidmore coach for whom the trophy is awarded. The trophy cup didn't stop there, as the men's and women's teams were awarded the Sanford Cup, which is the overall team points trophy. The Sanford Cup honors the Sanford family who has numerous contributions to New York State Rowing. This is the first time in program history that Hamilton has won the cup. This honor speaks to the depth of the program over the past several years.  It's exciting to see it come together at a championship event."

Hamilton's time of 7:36.406 in the varsity eight grand final trailed only No. 5 Ithaca College and its time of 7:28.841. No. 13 Skidmore College was third (7:39.626) and No. 14 Rochester Institute of Technology landed in fourth place (7:41.657). Earlier in the morning, the Continentals edged RIT for first place in the second heat by less than a second in 7:26.210.

Hamilton had two entries in the second varsity eight and one of them captured first place in the grand final with a time of 7:33.050. Ithaca was runner-up in 7:35.953 and the Continentals' other boat finished third with a time of 7:42.419. In the first heat Hamilton was second to Ithaca in 7:48.830, and the Continentals edged William Smith College for first place by less than a second in the second heat with a time of 7:39.561.

In the varsity four grand final Hamilton recorded a time of 8:59.397, which was about three-tenths of a second behind runner-up Union College (8:59.093). Stony Brook University was the race winner in 8:43.3. The Continentals won their heat with a time of 9:09.890.

"All boats raced very well," Lister said. "This is what you work towards for this time of year. The women's team medaled in all their events. The 2V8+ and 3V8+ won gold and bronze in the same second varsity eight event, since there isn't a third varsity eight event at States. And the V4+ placed third in a very tight race. We have a quick turnaround and race at the NIRC/NESCAC Championships on Friday in Worcester."

Hamilton competes in the National Invitational Rowing Championships, which double as the NESCAC Championships, On Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., on Friday, May 12.
