Continentals host Ithaca, Marist and Colgate on April 29 on the Erie Canal

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Hamilton College finished runner-up in the men's varsity eight grand final at the Skidmore College Sprints, which were held on Fish Creek on Saturday, April 22.

The Continentals also ended up in second place in the second varsity eight grand final. Hamilton hosts a regatta on the Erie Canal in Rome on Saturday, April 29. Racing begins at 10:30 a.m.

The Continentals' nationally ranked No. 8 varsity eight posted a time of 6:17.082 in the afternoon's grand final. Only No. 14 St. Lawrence University finished ahead of Hamilton in 6:07.240. No. 13 Rochester Institute of Technology and No. 12 Catholic University finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The Continentals took first place in their morning heat with a time of 6:11.632. A total of nine entries raced in the varsity eight.

"Racing in Saratoga is almost like a home race," Head Coach James Lister said. "We race here in the fall and we return for the New York State Rowing Championships in two weeks. Good to see some new teams and access where we are with our speed. The racing gets faster from here on out. We look forward to the challenge to keep looking inward and find more boat speed as we prepare for the weekend racing at home with Ithaca, Marist and Colgate this Saturday."

Hamilton was runner-up out of six boats in a competitive second varsity eight grand final with a time of 6:28.762. Fewer than six seconds separated the top four finishers. Entries from RIT finished first (6:26.978) and third (6:31.281). The Continentals claimed first place in their morning heat with a time of 6:37.648.

Hamilton landed in third place in a varsity four race with a time of 8:25.310. Skidmore (7:53.056) was the winner and Catholic (8:05.565) took second place.
