WORCESTER, Mass. – Hamilton College finished in third place in the men's varsity eight at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute/Clark University Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, April 8.
Nationally ranked No. 8 Hamilton posted a time of 6:17.89, which was 11.1 seconds behind race winner and fifth-ranked Wesleyan University. No. 4 WPI was runner-up in 6:13.21 and No. 13 Colby College came in fourth at 6:25.09. University of Massachusetts landed in fifth place with a time of 6:38.19. Wesleyan took home the Class of 2003 Cup.
Hamilton finished third out of four boats in the second varsity eight with a time of 6:37.8. Wesleyan's winning time of 6:14.4 was 12 seconds faster than runner-up WPI. UMass ended up in fourth place in 6:46.09.
"The first race of the season gives us an opportunity to measure our speed and inform us of the areas where we are proficient and areas to improve," Head Coach
James Lister said. "The men's varsity eight had a solid middle speed and looks to improve on the start and finish ends of the race. The 2V8+ rowed the lineup for the first time after coming back from illness and injury. I anticipate both boats showing more speed this weekend as we spend more time together in lineups this week."
The Continentals head back to Lake Quinsigamond for another regatta hosted by WPI on Sunday, April 16.
