Women's hockey makes history, garners first NCAA championship bid

Continentals' dream season continues with first round home game against Nazareth

The Hamilton College Continentals will host Nazareth College in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Championship at Russell Sage Rink on Wednesday, March 8 at 7 p.m.

Hamilton, which defeated Nazareth 4-1 at home back on Jan. 10, is making its first appearance in the NCAA women's hockey championship. The Continentals own an overall record of 20-5-2 and finished with a 12-3-1 mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Hamilton received an at-large bid after it lost in the conference championship final to Amherst College on March 4. In fact, the NESCAC was awarded all three at-large bids to the 11-team NCAA championship.

The Golden Flyers made their first NCAA appearance in 2022 and lost 2-1 against Elmira College. Nazareth is 22-5-1 overall and ended up 18-1-1 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Golden Flyers earned an automatic bid after they defeated Utica University 3-2 in double overtime in their conference championship final on March 4. Nazareth has nine wins and a tie in its last 10 games.

The winner of Wednesday's game will travel to Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., for a quarterfinal on Saturday, March 11 at 3 p.m. Adrian has an overall record of 26-3-0 and is the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association champions.
