Men's tennis continues to play well at Haverford Invitational

Hamilton sweeps doubles play on Sunday

Hamilton College's Gianni Esposito '24 led the Continentals with a 4-1 combined singles and doubles record as they continued their fall season at the Haverford Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Bramall and Marshall Courts. The Continentals squared off against opponents from Washington College, Vassar College and Haverford. 
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton split its six matches with Washington (Maryland). Anson Anderson '26 and Lorenzo Gunningham '26 picked up Hamilton's first victory of the invitational with an 8-5 doubles win.
  • Connor Griff '25 secured a singles win after his opponent retired in the second set. 
  • Anderson cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 win for his second victory of the day. 
  • Eric Stein '23 defeated his singles opponent, 6-1, 7-5. 
  • Esposito earned a thrilling 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win in his first singles match. 
  • Pius Lo '24 followed suit as he cruised to an 8-2 victory. 
  • Against Vassar, Nicolas Gritz '25 and Esposito battled for an 8-6 win in doubles. 
  • Griff, Anderson and Mark Apsey '25 wrapped up the first day of competition by winning their singles matches in straight sets. 
  • On Sunday, the Continentals won eight of 11 matches against the hosts. Griff and Matt Bartok '23 came out on top 8-7 (5) in doubles. 
  • The pairings of Anderson and Gunningham as well as Gritz and Esposito won by the same 8-4 scores.
  • Stein and Apsey rounded out doubles play with a close 8-6 triumph.
  • Griff kept it going with a huge 7-5, 7-6 (6) conquest in singles play. 
  • After falling 4-6 in the first set, Stein rallied for the win, 6-2, 11-9. 
  • Gunningham also forced three sets and earned a 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory.
  • Esposito closed out the weekend with a three-set singles win, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. 
Notes
  • Hamilton won 12 singles and six doubles matches. 
  • The Continentals swept the four doubles matches on Sunday. 
  • Anderson went 4-2 in singles and doubles play at Haverford.
  • Griff was a perfect 3-0 in singles matches.
