Colgate University defeated Hamilton College in the Second Annual Founder's Cup Race hosted by Hamilton on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on Sept. 24.
 
The winner is determined by the aggregate score of the four 1,000-meter races for both the men and women. The combined time for the Hamilton women's varsity eight of 14:27.2 was less than four seconds slower than Colgate's varsity eight. The Continentals' fastest race was the third one with a time of 3:32.9.
 
The second varsity eight ended up with a four-race time of 15:20.2 including 3:42.5 in the third race. Hamilton's second varsity eight was almost 17 seconds faster than Colgate's.
 
"Overall it was a great first race for our team," Head Coach James Lister said. "We showed a lot of grit and with only three weeks under our belts, we are rowing technically sound. The team has four more weeks to prepare for the Head of the Fish on October 29th in Saratoga Springs. Additionally, the new Jason P. Andris Boathouse played host once again to a race in Bellamy Park. It's a fantastic place for us to host races for many years to come."
 
Hamilton's varsity eight competes in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass., on the Charles River on Sunday, Oct. 23.
