Tessa Ryan '21 figures in three of five goals in No. 21 women's lacrosse setback

O'Hara '21 makes a career-high 11 saves for Continentals in 10-5 loss at No. 18 Trinity

The nationally ranked No. 18 Trinity College Bantams scored seven of the first eight goals and went on to post a 10-5 NESCAC win against the No. 21 Hamilton College Continentals at Trinity's Sheppard Field on Sunday afternoon. 

Hamilton (2-2, 2-2 NESCAC) trailed 8-2 late in the second half but scored three straight goals in a span of 89 seconds and cut its deficit in half. The Bantams clinched the victory with two goals in the final 2:21.

Tessa Ryan '21 led the Continentals with two goals and an assist. Reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Courtney Pierre '21 chipped in two goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Pierre leads the team with 14 goals and 16 points. Eva Abel '22 scored her sixth goal this season.

Alyssa Bonanno '21 scooped up three ground balls and recorded three of Hamilton's 14 caused turnovers. Meghan Lane '24 won four draw controls and collected three ground balls, and Olivia Seymour '22 registered three draws. Megan O'Hara '21 made a career-high 11 saves, including seven in the second half.

Trinity (3-3, 1-3) was led by Marcella Filbotte and her three goals, four draw controls and three ground balls. Katrina Angelucci also scored three goals and Christine Taylor contributed two goals and two assists. Anna Costello led the defense with three caused turnovers and Gabriella Young stopped 12 shots.

The Bantams scored twice in the opening 1:48 of the first half before Pierre made it 2-1 on a free-position goal with 24:46 left. She set up on the right side, cut to the middle and scored from close range. The Continentals didn't score the rest of the half and Trinity took a 7-1 advantage into the break.

The teams combined to score just two goals during the first 25 minutes of the second half. Ryan scored a free-position goal with 22:03 remaining when she took off just left of center of the 8-meter, veered slightly to her right and scored on a low shot.

Ryan scored again on an impressive athletic move with 4:55 to go. She took a pass on the run from just outside the 12-meter fan, headed straight to the goal and scored on a high shot from the right side.

Ryan found Abel for another goal 46 seconds later. Abel collected the pass near the goal line a few meters to the right of the crease, cut towards the middle and scored on a high shot from point-blank range.

Pierre pulled Hamilton within 8-5 on another free-position goal with 3:26 left. She started just right of the center, charged straight to the goal and beat Young with a shot up top.
