No. 21 women’s lacrosse wins in overtime against No. 18 Trinity

Hamilton College's Eva Abel '22 scored with 1:33 remaining in sudden-victory overtime and lifted the nationally ranked No. 21 Continentals to a 10-9 win over the No. 18 Trinity College Bantams at Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Continentals (3-2 overall) outshot the Bantams 33-25, won 12 of 21 draw controls, were successful on all 34 clear attempts and picked up 21 ground balls.

Abel scored the game winning goal after she forced a turnover in front of the net. She recorded three points with two goals and one assist while Olivia Seymour '22 had one goal and two assists. Honor Gabriel '21 and Tessa Ryan '21 had two goals apiece and Courtney Pierre '21, Abby Smith '24 and Lauren Hamilton '22 tallied the other three.

Meghan Lane '24 won seven draw controls and collected three ground balls and Seymour registered three draws. Ryan, Alyssa Bonanno '21 and Sophie Cote '21 scooped up three ground balls each. Cote led the defense with four caused turnovers. Megan O'Hara '21 made two saves in 42-plus minutes in goal and Maeve Luparello '23 recorded two stops in her 10 minutes between the pipes.

Seymour scored the first goal and got the assist on Ryan's goal 3:53 later for Hamilton in the opening 7 minutes, 7 seconds. Trinity (3-4) scored three goals in 6:43 and took a one-goal lead with 10:02 left in the first half.

Gabriel tied the score with 2:40 remaining and Smith gave Hamilton a 4-3 lead with 1:32 left. The Bantams put one in the back of the net with four seconds to go and the teams headed into halftime tied 4-4.

Gabriel scored her second goal of the day 57 seconds into the second half and Pierre gave the Continentals a 6-4 advantage 4:51 in. Trinity scored four unanswered goals and grabbed an 8-6 lead with 14:52 remaining. Neither team led by more than two goals.

Ryan recorded her second goal of the afternoon at the 13:44 mark and Abel scored while Hamilton was up a player on an assist from Seymour 2:30 later as the Continentals drew even again at 8-8. Hamilton gave the Continentals a 9-8 edge with 9:36 left and the Bantams tied the score with 29 seconds remaining and forced overtime.
