Hopewell '25 runs for touchdown in football loss against Williams

Continentals travel to Amherst next Saturday

Williams College's Bobby Maimaron threw three touchdown passes and the Ephs posted a 35-7 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Steuben Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Continentals dipped to 2-3 in the conference as all of their losses are against teams that are currently 5-0. Hamilton goes on the road to take on 3-2 Amherst College on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.

Williams (5-0) racked up 215 yards rushing and had the ball for more than 37 minutes. The Ephs defense held the Continentals to eight first downs and 149 yards of offense, including 28 passing.

Hamilton's Kamau Hopewell '25 ran for 74 yards on just 10 carries, added 20 yards receiving and scored his second rushing touchdown. George Johnson '23 was credited with a career-high 14 tackles and Alex Street '23 recorded a career-best 12 stops including three for a loss. Christian Snell '23 came up with his fifth career interception and James Bourque '24 returned his first pick 23 yards. Shane Lavender '23 forced a fumble that was recovered by Slade Springer '23 late in the fourth quarter.

Maimaron was 9 of 15 for 169 yards and added 39 on the ground. Joel Nicholas chipped in 79 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns. Coleston Smith made a team-high six tackles and Edward Manzella had an interception.

The Continentals' 12-play scoring drive took more than five minutes and covered 75 yards. Hopewell accounted for 51 yards including a 27-yard scamper down to the Williams 20 on the first play of the fourth quarter. He later rumbled into the end zone off right tackle on third-and-goal from the three with 11:48 left in the fourth. Sam Thoreen '22 added the extra point. 

The Ephs scored two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters and led 28-0 at the half. Joel Nicholas opened the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run with 11:06 remaining in the first, and Ethan McCullough caught a 55-yard touchdown pass with 6:03 to go.

Nicholas busted into the end zone from the 1-yard line with 12:09 left in the second quarter. McCullough registered his second touchdown reception on a two-yard toss from Maimaron with 3.2 seconds left. Cameron Lee's 37-yard touchdown catch with 2:26 remaining in the third quarter made it 34-0. Ivan Shuran was 5-for-5 on extra points.
