Box Score Williams College's Olivia Hindy posted 10 kills and the Ephs defeated the Hamilton College Continentals in three sets in a NESCAC match played at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday night.
The Continentals (7-4, 1-1 NESCAC) hammered 42 kills but also had 28 attack errors. Hamilton is off until next Friday, Oct. 4 when the Continentals take on Tufts University for another conference match at 7:30 p.m.
Williams (9-3, 2-0) swept Hamilton by set scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-19. The Ephs finished with a 5-0 advantage in service aces.
Giuliana Rankin '20 paced the Continentals with 14 kills and has reached double digits in each of the last six matches. Rankin leads the NESCAC with 125 kills and is second with 3.38 per set.
Kendall Boxe '22 added five kills and no errors in 13 attempts for a .385 hitting percentage. Jo Dine '22 handed out 30 assists and came away with nine digs. Deirdre Corrigan '23 topped the defense with 14 digs, Nikki Matsuoka '21 added 12 and Kendall Searcy '20 had 11. Dorothy Poucher '21 was credited with three blocks including a pair of solo stops. Poucher has two or more blocks in each of the last five matches.
Erin Denham chipped in seven kills and nine digs for Williams. Alexandra Newton passed out 12 assists and recorded eight digs, and Daiana Takashima had a team-high 15 digs. Natalie Albright served a pair of aces and Anna Tosolini boasted three blocks.
In the first set neither team led by more than three points until the Ephs ran off four straight for a 21-16 cushion. Hamilton responded with an 8-2 run and a kill by Boxe gave the Continentals set point at 24-23. Christina Conforti pulled Williams even with a kill, a Hamilton attack error gave the Ephs the lead and block assists by Conforti and Albright ended the set.
Rankin pounded four kills early in the second set as the Continentals jumped out to a 7-3 advantage. Hamilton still led by four at 11-7 when Williams ran off six points in a row for a 13-11 edge. The Continentals didn't back down as a solo block by Boxe put them back up by a point at 17-16. The Ephs took over for good with four straight points on a Hamilton service error, an attack error, an ace by Gracie Guidotti and a solo block by Lauren Barry.
The Continentals led 7-5 early in the third set but Williams used 6-0 and 5-0 runs to take an 18-10 lead and cruised from there. Hamilton did force the Ephs to endure six match points after the Continentals trailed 24-14, but Hindy closed it out on her 10th and final kill.
