Box Score The Hamilton College women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie against the Wesleyan University Cardinals in NESCAC action at Wesleyan's Jackson Field on Saturday.
Wesleyan (5-2-1, 2-1-1 NESCAC) had two chances in the 10th minute to jump out to an early lead, but Rachel Pike '21 made back-to-back diving saves for the Continentals, one to her left and one to her right, to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard. Pike finished the contest with a career-best 13 saves.
Maddie Dale '20 broke the scoreless tie in the 33rd minute when she blasted a shot all the way from the right sideline into the bottom left corner of the goal, giving Hamilton (3-2-2, 3-2-1) a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Cardinals netted the equalizer at the 78:17 mark when Liz Young beat a defender inside the penalty box and fired the ball into the upper ninety. Young had a chance to win the game in the final minute of regulation when she split the Hamilton defenders from 10 yards out for an open shot but Pike made the diving save.
Overtime was a seesaw battle with neither team able to break the knot. Wesleyan had a 4-3 shot advantage in the first overtime stanza and Hamilton held a 2-0 edge in the second.
Hamilton stays on the road for another NESCAC game against nationally ranked No. 22/RV Tufts University on Sunday, Sept. 30 at noon in Medford, Mass.
