The Hamilton College Continentals dropped an 8-1 NESCAC match against the Amherst College Mammoths on Sunday.
The match was the first played at Hamilton's new Tietje Family Tennis Center and Falmouth Road Race Reunion Courts. The 12-court facility was completed in the summer of 2017 and dedicated on October 21, 2017, in honor of Francis "Frank" Tietje '80 and the Tietje family of Falmouth, Mass.
Max Zimmerman '21 took down the Mammoths' Jayson Fung in third flight singles in three sets. Fung posted a 6-1 win in the first set before Zimmerman responded with a decisive 6-1 win in the second set, and he kept the momentum with a 6-3 win in the third and deciding set. Zimmerman has won six of his last seven singles matches, including the last four.
Zimmerman was also part of a doubles team with Tim Derby '21 in an exciting second flight match, but their opponents snuck by with a 9-7 win.
Seven of Hamilton's (3-9 overall, 0-5 NESCAC) losses this season are against teams included in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Top 40 Team Rankings. Amherst (11-3, 4-1) is seventh in the National Team Rankings.
Hamilton travels to Ithaca College on Thursday, April 26 for a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m.
