Box Score The SUNY Geneseo Knights bridged the end of the first half and the beginning of the second with eight straight goals and went on to a 15-11 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Ann Dever Memorial Regional Park in Englewood, Fla., on Tuesday.
Kara Pooley '19 was all over the place for nationally ranked No. 17 Hamilton (1-3 overall) with two goals, an assist, nine draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Nicole Lyons '18 tied a career high with four points on two goals and two assists, Darby Philbrick '18 chipped in three goals and five draw controls, and Tatiana Bradley '19 scored twice. The Continentals held a 17-11 advantage on the draw. Charlotte Wynn '20 and Sarah Kaiser '19 scooped up three ground balls apiece, and Hannah Burrall '19 made 10 saves. Burrall leads the NESCAC with nearly 12 stops per game.
Erin Cregan led No. 21 Geneseo (3-0) with four goals and an assist. Rachel Fisher contributed two goals and four helpers, and Tessa Doody recorded two goals and two assists. Hannah Millich scored three goals and Hannah Marafioti finished with a pair of goals and one assist. Cassidy O'Rourke picked up four ground balls, Karen Boronczyk won seven draws and Mallory Max ended up with two goals and three caused turnovers. Tess McFadden turned away five shots as the Knights owned a 34-20 shot advantage.
Hamilton led 5-3 after Lyons scored on a free-position shot with 15:50 left in the first half. Max started the 8-0 run on her goal off a feed from Doody with 14:19 remaining, and Fisher tied the score with 5:20 to go. Fisher found Millich for a goal with 3:31 left that put Geneseo in front for good as one of the Continentals was sitting out with a yellow card.
The Knights added five more goals, including three on free-position shots, in the opening 8:40 of the second half. Cregan had two goals and assisted on another, and Marafioti notched both of her goals during that span early in the second. Cregan's free-position goal with 21:20 remaining gave Geneseo an 11-5 cushion.
Hamilton clawed its way back to within two goals with four in a row in a span of just over two minutes. Courtney Pierre '21 found the back of the net on a free-position shot, Pooley passed to Philbrick for a goal, and then Pooley scored on the free position. Philbrick made it 11-9 with 15:31 to go on her goal off a pass from Lyons.
The Knights responded with four consecutive goals and restored their six-goal lead. Cregan started the run with her free-position goal, Fisher scored unassisted and then found Max for another tally, and Doody beat the goalie for the 15-9 advantage with 6:52 left.
Pooley and Bradley handed the Continentals a 2-0 lead just 76 seconds into the first half and Hamilton didn't trail until late in the half. A free-position goal by Skyler Simson '20 put the Continentals in front 3-2 six minutes in, and Philbrick's goal on a free position with 21:40 remaining gave Hamilton a 4-3 edge.
The Continentals play their fifth ranked team in five games this season on Thursday, March 15 when they take on No. 20 Bowdoin College in NESCAC action at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda at 7:30 p.m.
