Box Score Hamilton College's Kyndal Burdin '18 tied a career high with 48 assists as the Continentals dropped a five-set NESCAC match against the Bowdoin Polar Bears at Bowdoin's Morrell Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Continentals (6-5, 2-3 NESCAC) won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-19, but Bowdoin tied the match by winning the third set 25-16 and the fourth 25-17. Bowdoin outlasted Hamilton in a 15-11 fifth and deciding set for the 3-2 victory.
The Polar Bears (7-6, 4-1 NESCAC) remain the fourth-best team in the NESCAC standings behind Tufts, Wesleyan and Middlebury, all undefeated in conference play.
Hamilton racked up a season-high 102 digs. Christine Zizzi '18 continued to lead the defense with 28 digs. Nikki Matsuoka '21 added 21 and Meghan Wilkinson '19 chipped in 20.
Courtney Brown '18 led the attack with 15 kills, followed by Matsuoka's 12.
Margaret O'Brien '18 added six blocks to increase her career total to 295. O'Brien currently ranks fourth on the program's all-time total blocks list and she is just 11 shy of moving up to third.
Caroline Flaharty had a match-high 16 kills for Bowdoin. Lisa Sheldon picked up 29 digs and Kate Kiser added 43 assists.
Hamilton will travel back to Maine next weekend for two NESCAC matches. The Continentals face Bates at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6 and Colby on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
