Gambino '21 scores as women's soccer ties Middlebury

Box Score

Hamilton College's Cat Gambino '21 scored her first collegiate goal and the Continentals played to a 1-1 overtime tie against the Middlebury College Panthers in a NESCAC game at Middlebury's Dragone Field on Sunday afternoon.

Emily Dumont '18 made six saves, including two in the two 10-minute overtime periods, for Hamilton (2-2-1, 1-2-1 NESCAC). Dumont has allowed just one goal in the last three games.

Ursula Alwang recorded three of her four saves in the first half for the Panthers (3-1-1, 1-1-1). The Continentals outshot Middlebury 5-1 in the first half but the Panthers held a 16-3 advantage in shots during the final 65 minutes. The Panthers took four corner kicks to Hamilton's three.

Gambino gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead on the second career assist and point for Kayleigh Harris '20 with 3:03 left in the first half. Harris sent a through ball to Gambino, who turned and beat her defender, and buried a shot into the upper-left corner.

The one-goal lead stood up until Middlebury's Eliza Van Voorhis headed a shot into the back of the net on a pass from Eliza Robinson with 1:50 remaining in the second half.

In overtime, Dumont stopped a Panther shot midway through the first extra period, and both teams put a shot on goal in the second sudden-victory period. Two minutes into that last period, Alwang came charging off her line and denied a chance from the left side by a sprinting Katie Kreider '18.

Hamilton travels to Connecticut College for another NESCAC contest on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11:30 a.m.
