Box Score Hamilton College's Morgan Fletcher '17 posted three goals and an assist and the nationally ranked No. 17 Continentals registered a 13-5 NESCAC win against the Bates College Bobcats at Hamilton's Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Continentals (6-3, 4-1 NESCAC) won their fifth straight game and they have outscored their opponents 57-28 during the streak. Hamilton has won four of the seven all-time meetings with Bates. The Continentals are in second place in the conference standings at the halfway point of the NESCAC schedule.
The Bobcats (6-4, 1-4) had won their previous three games. Bates entered the afternoon averaging more than 12 goals per contest.
Fletcher added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. She leads the team with 15 goals and 23 points. Kara Pooley '19 tied a career high with four points on two goals and two assists. Pooley and Fletcher are tied for the team lead with eight assists apiece. Nora Klemmer '17 chipped in two goals and two helpers as well. Tatiana Bradley '19 scored a career-best three goals and Darby Philbrick '18 recorded a goal and an assist.
Alex Hendry '19 led all players with four ground balls and Charlotte Wynn '20 scooped up three for Hamilton. Hannah Burrall '19 had a huge day in goal as she tied a career high with eight saves, caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
Allison Dewey and Camille Belletete paced the Bobcats with two goals apiece. Belletete tops the team with 23 goals and 31 points. Dewey added three ground balls and five draw controls and Belletete won four draws. Bates finished with a 12-8 advantage in draw controls. Eliza Statile stopped five shots.
The Continentals dominated the first half as they scored the first three goals and enjoyed a 6-1 lead at the break. Pooley fed Casey File '17 for the first goal and Pooley scored unassisted to make it 2-0. Klemmer made it a three-goal cushion with 22:47 left.
Sydney Howard pulled the Bobcats within 3-1 on a free-position goal with 21:19 remaining but Pooley followed with one of her own just 17 seconds later. Fletcher notched the last two goals of the first half and scored again 2:11 into the second for a 7-1 advantage. Hamilton held a 17-8 shot advantage and the Continentals had 11 ground balls to Bates' five in the opening 30 minutes.
Belletete cut Bates' deficit to five with 24:30 to go when she scored on a pass from Avery MacMullen. Hamilton responded by scoring the next five goals to put the game away.
Klemmer, Philbrick and Jackie Cuddy '18 tallied the first three goals of the spurt and gave the Continentals a 10-2 lead. Cuddy scored her 14th goal with 17:16 left when Fletcher passed up a free-position shot and found Cuddy wide open just outside the crease. Bradley scored two goals 57 seconds apart for a 12-2 advantage with 9:18 remaining.
The Bobcats scored three goals in the final 8:27 and Bradley notched her third of the day for Hamilton on a pass from Pooley with 6:56 to go.
The Continentals are home again on Wednesday, April 5 against NESCAC rival Middlebury College on Withiam Field at 5 p.m. Bates hosts Bowdoin College in conference action on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
