The Hamilton College men's tennis team defeated Hamline University 5-4 on Wednesday night and dropped a 5-4 decision against Grinnell College on Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
The Continentals (3-7 overall) suffered a 7-2 setback against Savannah College of Art and Design late Thursday night. Matthew Haas '19 rallied after dropping the first set at fifth flight singles and clinched the match with a 10-3 win in the third set super-tiebreaker. Haas leads the team with 10 singles victories. Devin White '17 cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at sixth flight for his first singles win this spring.
Hamilton returns to campus and will host Rochester Institute of Technology for a non-conference match on Sunday, March 26. Grinnell (7-8) is 14th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association men's team rankings for the Central Region.
Sam Farber '20, Jon Cohen '17 and Haas won their singles matches against both Hamline and Grinnell for the Continentals. Lars Scannell '19 helped clinch the win against Hamline by outlasting his fifth flight opponent in a third set super-tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.
Farber breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Hamline and posted a 7-6, 6-0 victory against Grinnell in second flight singles. Haas was a 6-4, 6-4 winner on Wednesday and lost just two games on Thursday in sixth flight singles. Farber is right behind Haas with nine singles victories.
Cohen picked up the 38th and 39th singles wins of his Hamilton career. He defeated his Hamline opponent by scores of 6-4 and 6-4, and posted a 6-3, 7-6 victory against his Grinnell opponent at fourth flight singles.
Scannell and Eyad Nagori '18 teamed up for an 8-6 triumph at first flight doubles against Hamline. Farber and Max McKee-Proctor '17 picked up an 8-6 win at second flight doubles against Grinnell.
