O'Hara '17 shutout highlights baseball's last Florida games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Hamilton College baseball team wrapped up its season-opening spring trip by splitting a doubleheader with Clarkson University Wednesday in Auburndale, Fla. The Continentals, who'll bring a 6-5 record back to Clinton, won the opener 3-0 and lost game two 7-2.

Finlay O'Hara '17 threw a complete-game two-hit shutout in game one, allowing just two runners past first.

Ryan Wolfsberg '17 hit an RBI single and Craig Sandford '20 and Chris Collins '17 contributed sacrifice flies as the Continentals scored single runs in the second, third and fourth.

Wolfsberg drove in the game's first run after a one-out single by Craig Sandford and a two-out base hit by Justin Schirmacher '20. Wolfsberg's single up the middle gave him a team-leading six runs batted in.

An inning later singles by Andrew Haser '17, Ian Nish '19 and Dean Rosenberg '18 loaded the bases and Craig Sandford's fly ball to center field put the Continentals up 2-0.

Hamilton closed the scoring in the fourth after Nate Goodman '10 doubled down the left field line and moved to third on a bunt before coming home on Chris Collins' fly ball to right.

Rosenberg and Kenny Collins '17 both had two of the 11 Continental base hits.

O'Hara picked up his first win of the spring and raised his career mark to 5-6.

He allowed only one Golden Knight to reach third (Cam Bando led off the second with a single, stole second and moved to third on a ground out) and set down the last seven batters in order.

In game two, Clarkson scored four first-inning runs and three Golden Knight pitchers combined on a four-hitter.

Hamilton pulled to within 4-2 with a pair of fourth-inning runs but the Golden Knights pulled away with three runs over the next two innings.

Kenny Collins '17 bunted his way on to lead off the fourth and scored on a one-out double by his brother Chris. After Chris Collins stole third, Haser brought him home with a sacrifice fly.

After the first three Golden Knights singled in the first to load the bases Cam Bando singled in two runs and Clarkson added to its lead on an RBI single by Zach Riccardi and a passed ball.

Two more runs scored in the fifth on an infield error with the bases loaded and Dan Pirro closed out the scoring an inning later with a run-scoring double.

Ryan Riley earned the win for Clarkson, striking out five over four innings. Ted Wilson and Will Coleman closed out the game out of the Golden Knight bullpen, allowing two hits across the final three innings.

The Continentals return to action Sunday, hosting Cazenovia College in a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader. The games will be the first played at Hamilton's Loop Road Baseball/Softball Complex, which was completed last summer.
