Box Score Gettysburg College scored the first three goals and the last three goals of the second half, and the nationally ranked No. 3 Bullets rallied for a 10-6 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Ann Dever Field in Englewood, Fla., on Tuesday.
Hamilton (1-3 overall) led 4-2 midway through the first half but Gettysburg spanned the end of the first and the beginning of the second halves with five straight goals and remained undefeated. The Continentals are receiving votes in this week's Division III Top 20 coaches poll.
Darby Philbrick '18 led the Hamilton offense with two goals and Morgan Fletcher '17 chipped in a goal and an assist. Defensively, Maddie Fitzpatrick '18 caused three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls, and Casey File '17 posted two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Hannah Burrall '19 made five saves and played all 60 minutes in goal.
The Bullets (5-0) were led by Caroline Jaeger and Katie Willis with their two goals and one assist apiece. Katie Landry added a goal and two helpers, Emma Christie tallied a pair of goals and Maggie Welsh finished with a goal and an assist. Steph Colson led all players with five draw controls. Katelyn Neillands and Ali Gorab had two ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece. Shannon Keeler started in goal and stopped three shots before Bailey Pilder played the final 30 minutes and posted four saves.
Alex Hendry '19 gave the Continentals a 4-2 advantage on her second goal this year with 11:51 left in the first half. Jaeger started the Gettysburg run 1:22 later when she scored off a feed from Landry. Landry then tied the score on a pass from Willis with 2:40 remaining.
Rebekah Riley put the Bullets in front for good on her goal off an assist from Cassie Smith with 23:32 to go. Welsh notched an unassisted goal and then found Christie for the score that capped the spurt with 13:55 left.
Hendry won the draw and File scored her fifth goal this year 25 seconds later on an assist from Kara Pooley '19. Fletcher pulled Hamilton within one on a free-position goal with 11:37 remaining. She has three goals and eight points this year.
The Continentals didn't score again and Gettysburg pulled away with three more goals. Jaeger found the back of the net on a free-position shot and Courtney Patterson tallied a man-up goal about a minute after a Hamilton player was sent off for a yellow card with 3:09 to go. Christie rounded out the scoring with 27 seconds left.
Philbrick gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead 1:58 into the first half and the teams traded goals for the first 14 minutes. Jackie Cuddy '18 put Hamilton up 2-1 with 19:25 remaining and Philbrick handed the Continentals a 3-2 edge on her fifth goal courtesy of another free-position shot.
Hamilton continues its Florida trip with a NESCAC contest against No. 14 Bowdoin College at Ann Dever Field on Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m.
