Box Score The Hamilton College women's hockey team's three-game winning streak ended Friday night with a 2-1 loss to visiting Bowdoin College in the opener of a weekend NESCAC series at Russell Sage Rink. The teams conclude the series Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Continentals, who are ranked 10th in the latest D3hockey.com poll, fell to 11-6-2 overall and 6-4-1 in the NESCAC (where they're tied for second place).
Hamilton skated with a six-on-four advantage for the game's final 1:15; the hosts pulled goaltender Sam Walther '18 for an extra skater at the 18:19 mark and 26 seconds later the Polar Bears were whistled for their sixth penalty. The Continentals got off eight shots in the final minutes but Bowdoin goaltender Sophia Lattanzio made five of her 37 saves to preserve the win.
The visitors (11-6-3, 6-4-2 NESCAC) took the lead five minutes into the first period and held the 1-0 advantage until early in the second when Olivia Hawes '19 tied the score with a power-play goal. Lattanzio made a stick save of a shot taken from the point by Caroline Knop '18 and the rebound went directly to Hawes at the left post. Hawes' goal -- her fifth this winter -- was her team-leading third on the power play.
Julie Dachille netted the game winner for Bowdoin at 13:12 of the third. With Bowdoin on the power play, Jessica Bowen sent the puck from the point to the slot, where Marissa Fichter directed it to Dachille just outside the left post. Dachille's backhand shot slipped between Walther (28 saves) and the post for her ninth goal to put Bowdoin ahead to stay.
Dachille assisted on the game's first goal, setting up Brooke Solomon for a wrist shot 4:47 into the first.
