Box Score Giuliana Rankin '20 smashed a match-high 13 kills as the Hamilton College volleyball team defeated Trinity College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.
Hamilton (10-5, 6-3 NESCAC) has won four straight matches -- all in conference action -- and the six NESCAC wins this season are the most in program history.
The Continentals won 25-17 in both the first and second sets. Trinity had a .170 to .044 hitting percentage advantage over Hamilton in the third set to win 25-18, but the Continentals accumulated a match-high .333 hitting percentage to win the fourth set 25-11.
Kyndal Burdin '18 recorded her second double-double of the weekend and 26th of her career with 31 assists and 21 digs. Christine Zizzi '18 had a match-high 23 digs. Rankin and Margaret O'Brien '18 each had five blocks. Kayla Self '21 and Zizzi each contributed three service aces.
Rachel Underwood had a team-high 12 kills and 15 digs for Trinity. Colette Scheffers added 11 kills and Hanna Engstrom had 10. Wyllie Boughton had 14 digs and Jessica Yang delivered 31 assists.
The score was 6-6 in the first set when Self delivered back-to-back service aces and Dorothy Poucher '21 slammed one of her eight kills to give the Continentals the lead. Hamilton went on to build a 20-11 advantage before Trinity responded with three unanswered points, but Hamilton closed the set with kills by Erin Donahue '18 and Poucher. Donahue finished the match with nine kills.
Trinity started the third set with a 2-0 lead and developed an 8-4 advantage. Hamilton went on two separate runs to tie the score at 9-9 and again at 13-13, but Trinity was able to avoid the sweep by outscoring Hamilton 12-4 to end the set.
Hamilton dominated the fourth and final set. The Continentals scored eight unanswered for an 11-3 lead and followed with a 9-1 run to make the score 20-4. The Bantams added seven more points, but Courtney Brown '18 clinched the victory with her sixth kill of the match.
The Continentals travel to Utica College on Tuesday, Oct. 17 for a non-conference match against the Pioneers (7-17, 0-6 Empire 8) at 6:30 p.m.
