MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Hamilton College's
Ayzlinn Trefren '28 registered a double-double with a career high-tying 15 kills to go along with 15 digs, and the Continentals totaled a season-high 56 kills but suffered a four-set loss against the Middlebury College Panthers in their season finale at Middlebury's Pepin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1.
Season Update
- Hamilton (7-12, 1-9 NESCAC) dropped its second match of the weekend. The Continentals lost in four sets at Williams College on Oct. 31.
- The Panthers (13-11, 6-4) play a 2025 NESCAC championship quarterfinal at Williams on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.
How It Happened
- Middlebury did not trail during the opening set, although Hamilton tied the score on three occasions. A 3-0 run by the Continentals that included kills by Trefren and Kathryn Fox '27 tied the score at 10-10. Hamilton once again scored three straight and tied the score at 20-20. Maggie Nichols '26 delivered a kill to make it 21-21, but the Panthers scored four of the next five points and took a 25-22 win in set one.
- Hamilton used a 5-0 run in set two and grabbed a 9-5 lead. A kill by Nichols gave the Continentals a 14-10 advantage, but the Panthers scored six straight with the help of three kills by Molly Harrison and pulled in front, 16-14. Middlebury held its lead for the remainder of the set and Gabby Pribisich provided a kill for the final point.
- Hamilton outlasted the Panthers in a tight third set. Middlebury served for match point at 24-23, but Hamilton scored the next two and took the lead. A kill by Middlebury's Molly MacDonald gave the Panthers a 27-26 advantage, but the Continentals responded with three straight points for a 29-27 win and sent the match to a fourth set. Hamilton used a balanced attack with five different players recording a kill in the Continentals' final nine points.
- Pribisich tallied three consecutive block assists during a 4-0 run in the fourth set as the Panthers went in front 5-2. A kill by Grace Seaman '29 gave the Continentals a 9-8 lead, but a 4-0 run by the Panthers put them back in front. Hamilton cut its deficit to one on several occasions but was unable to tie the score. Molly Harrison delivered a kill that made it 25-23 and clinched the match for Middlebury.
Notes
- Hamilton posted a .242 hitting percentage, its third-best mark in a match this season, and recorded a season-high 48 assists.
- Hamilton tallied 70 digs, one shy of its season high.
- Trefren, who finished the season as the team leader in kills (143) and digs (195), posted her third double-double of the season. Trefren previously posted a 15-kill, 15-dig double-double against Bates College on Sept. 20.
- Fox tied her career high with 11 kills and added five block assists.
- Grace Jansen '29 distributed 23 assists and served three aces for the Continentals. Jansen is tied for fifth in the conference with 0.48 aces per set.
- Seaman recorded a season-high 15 digs.
- Lucy Proud '29 contributed season highs of 20 assists and 13 digs for her third double-double this year.
- Caitlin Allen '27 helped lead the defense at the net with five blocks. Allen is second in the NESCAC with 1.25 per set.
- Molly Harrison led the Panthers with 18 kills, 18 digs and four block assists.
- Middlebury's Campbell Bartley totaled 46 assists.
