Box Score The Hamilton College women's soccer team wrapped up its four-game homestand Sunday afternoon, losing 1-0 to the visiting Middlebury College Panthers in NESCAC play at Love Field.
The Continentals are 2-4-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the NESCAC. Middlebury moved to 5-2-0 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC.
The Panthers scored the game's only goal with just under 10 minutes left in regulation off one of their six corner kicks. Adrianna Gildner sent the kick to the near post where it was headed to the ground. After a scramble in front of the net, Katherine Hobbs wound up with possession at the far post and scored her fourth goal of the season.
Middlebury goalkeeper Kate Reinmuth came up with her biggest save midway through the second half. Hamilton's Maddie Dale '20 sent a long, high shot from 25 yards out toward the near corner; Reinmuth leaped and knocked the ball down, then -- when it landed just short of the goal line -- had time to pounce on it to keep it from rolling in.
The Continentals nearly took a 1-0 lead late in the opening half when Katie Kreider '18 sent a shot across the goal mouth that went past Reinmuth before Clare Robinson played it off the line for the Panthers.
Both teams had a first-half scoring opportunity wind up over the crossbar.
In the seventh minute, Middlebury's Emma Shumway received a pass at point blank range and put her shot high over the goal.
Five minutes later a shot that Hamilton's Amanda Becker '18 sent to the far corner of the net was tipped over the crossbar by Reinmuth.
Emily Dumont '18 made three saves in the scoreless opening half; Rachel Cooley '18 stopped a pair of shots in the second period.
The Continentals are back in action Saturday, traveling to Wesleyan for an 11 a.m. NESCAC game against the Cardinals.
