Box Score The Hamilton College women's lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday afternoon, rallying to beat host Tufts University 13-12 in a match-up of nationally ranked NESCAC teams at Bello Field in Medford, Mass. The Continentals are 11th in the latest national coaches' poll and the Jumbos are 16th.
Hamilton (7-3, 3-3 NESCAC) broke an 11-all tie on a pair of late goals by Darby Philbrick '18, then held off a late charge by the hosts. Tufts (6-5, 2-4) scored with 66 seconds left to pull within a goal and won the ensuing draw but the Continentals forced a Jumbo turnover and held on for the win.
Philbrick, who led Hamilton with a career-best four goals, notched the go-ahead score with 3:48 left. After Margaret Gabriel '16 won the next draw, the Continentals maintained possession for nearly two minutes before Philbrick scored again.
Hamilton controlled another draw but the Jumbos forced a turnover to set up their final goal, which cut the lead to 13-12 with 1:06 to go. After winning the draw Tufts lost possession when Kara Pooley '19 forced a turnover; Morgan Fletcher '17 picked up the ground ball and Hamilton ran out the clock.
Pooley finished with three caused turnovers and three goals, matching season-high totals in both categories.
The Continentals erased an 8-6 deficit at intermission by scoring the first five goals of the second half. Fletcher and Casey File '17 each scored twice and Pooley capped the run with her third goal of the game 12:23 into the period.
The Jumbos came all the way back, scoring three goals in just over five minutes to pull even. Brigid Bowser, who opened the Tufts scoring five minutes into the game, contributed two of the three goals including the equalizer with 8:04 remaining. Bowser forced the turnover that set up the last Jumbo goal, picked up the ground ball (she led all players with six) and fed Caroline Ross for the score.
Caroline McCarthy '16 scored a goal and assisted on three others for the Continentals and Gabriel contributed a goal and an assist. File won a team-best four draw controls and Maddie Fitzpatrick '18 scooped up four ground balls.
Tufts surrendered the game's first two goals, then outscored the visitors 8-4 over the rest of the half to take a two-goal lead into the locker room. Megan Toner and Caroline Nowak both scored twice during the Jumbo run. Nowak finished with three goals and an assist.
Hannah Burrall '19 recorded six first-half saves for Hamilton. Audrey Evers stopped five shots in the Tufts net.
The Continentals return home for a NESCAC game against Williams College Tuesday at 5 p.m.
