Box Score 2 The Hamilton College baseball team wrapped up its final NESCAC West Division series of the season Saturday in Williamstown, Mass., splitting a doubleheader with the Williams College Ephs. The Continentals rolled to an 8-1 win in the nightcap after dropping game one 3-0.
Hamilton is now 15-14 on the season and finished 4-8 in divisional play. The Ephs fell to 12-18 and their 6-6 record in NESCAC West play left them a game out of the NESCAC playoffs.
In the nightcap, Dan DePaoli '18 threw 7.1 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out a career-best eight batters. He held the Ephs hitless for 3.2 innings and didn't allow a runner past second base before giving way to Brett Sandford '19, who picked up the final five outs. The Ephs were kept off the scoreboard until a pair of two-out hits in the bottom of the ninth.
Zack Becker '16 went two-for-four with three runs batted in and Brian Ferrell '16 added three hits.
The Continentals opened the game with a four-run first after Andrew Haser '17 and Jordan Northrup '19 both hit two-run singles.
Hamilton added to its lead with a two-out rally in the third. Northrup was hit by a pitch and Ferrell walked before Becker drove in his first run with a single to center.
Becker followed with a two-out, two-run single in the fifth. Chris Collins '17 doubled to lead off the inning and David Rose '16 was hit by a pitch before Northrup bunted them over to set up Becker's two-run single up the middle.
Rose doubled with one out in the seventh and scored on Ferrell's single down the line to close out the Hamilton scoring.
The Ephs' only run came when Jackson Parese scored on a double by Alex Panstares with two outs in the ninth.
In game one, Williams' Tyler Duff threw a one-hit shutout, retiring Hamilton's last 21 batters. Ryan Wolfsberg '17 led off the game with a single and Duff didn't allow another base runner while striking out six Continentals.
Adam Regensburg had two of the six Ephs' hits, including a two-run single during Williams' three-run first.
Spencer Vogelbach '18 gave up just three hits after the opening inning.
Hamilton plays a doubleheader Tuesday against Cazenovia College at Rome's DeLutis Field with the opener scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
Note: Sunday's scheduled game at SUNY Polytechnic has been canceled.
