The Hamilton College baseball team scored eight runs in the first two innings and pulled away for an 18-2 win over visiting St. Lawrence University in a non-league game Tuesday at Royce Field. The Continentals improved to 13-9 with the win while the Saints fell to 9-17.

Every Hamilton starter had a hit and eight scored a run as the Continentals finished with 17 hits and seven walks.

Ryan Wolfsberg '17 led the offensive charge with a three-run home run and he drew a bases-loaded walk. Brett Mele '17 went three-for-four, scoring four runs and driving in four – including the first home run of his career.

Mele's two-run single highlighted a five-run first inning that also included a sacrifice fly by Jordan Northrup '19 and run-scoring singles by Andrew Haser '17 and Dean Rosenberg '18.

An inning later Mele pounded a two-run home run, scoring Kenny Collins '17 two batters after Kenny Collins had singled in his brother Chris Collins '17. Wolfsberg's seventh career homer – a three-run shot – capped a four-run fifth that also featured a sacrifice fly by Brian Ferrell '16.

Ferrell hit a bases-loaded run-scoring single in the sixth.

Max Jones '19 upped his record to 3-0 with seven innings of six-hit pitching. He allowed only on earned run and didn't walk a batter. Brett Sandford '19 and Andrew Watson '19 each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Chris Collins finished with three hits and Kenny singled twice and scored two runs. David Rose '16 scored three runs; he was one of six Continentals with multiple hits: Northrup and Rosenberg added two hits apiece.

The Continentals return to NESCAC competition Friday and Saturday with a three-game weekend series with Wesleyan University. The teams start with a 4 p.m. game at Royce Field, followed by a noon doubleheader Saturday.
