Box Score The Hamilton College women's lacrosse team's three-game winning streak ended Sunday at Middlebury College in a match-up of nationally ranked NESCAC opponents in Middlebury, Vt. The host Panthers, who posted a 14-4 win, are second in the latest national coaches' poll; the Continentals are 11th.
Hamilton (9-4, 5-4 NESCAC) pulled to within 4-3 midway through the opening period but the hosts ran off 10 straight goals while holding the Continentals scoreless for a span of 37:42. The game had originally been scheduled for Wednesday, April 6 at Middlebury but a snowstorm enveloped the teams during warm-ups and the game was postponed.
After the Panthers scored 11:25 into the first to go up 4-2, Hamilton pulled to within a goal for the third time when Morgan Fletcher '17 fed Margaret Gabriel '16 2:23 later. But the Continentals scored just once more over the game's final 43:48 while Middlebury sealed the win.
Darby Philbrick '18 scored Hamilton's first two goals and Jackie Cuddy '18 closed out the Continental scoring with eight and a half minutes remaining.
The Panthers (11-1, 7-1 NESCAC), who bounced back from their first loss of the season (a 13-9 win by visiting Trinity Saturday), were led by Bridget Instrum, Laurel Pascal and Alli Sciarretta, who combined for 10 goals. Middlebury outshot Hamilton 25-14.
Megan Griffin contributed two goals and two assists. Hollis Perticone assisted on a pair of first-half goals and won four draw controls. Evie Keating led the Panthers with four ground balls. Pascal and Perticone both caused two turnovers.
For Hamilton, Fletcher posted season-best totals of five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Both Annie Pooley '16 and her younger sister Kara Pooley '19 picked up three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Hannah Rubin '17 collected three saves and three ground balls after entering the game late in the first. Hannah Burrall '19 stopped two shots.
Middlebury's Katie Mandigo made six saves.
The Continentals close out their stretch of four games in eight days Tuesday, hosting Ithaca College in a 5 p.m. non-conference game at Steuben Field.
