Baseball drops both ends of doubleheader to Fredonia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Hamilton College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to SUNY Fredonia Thursday in Winter Haven, Fla. The Continentals, who are now 3-3 on the season, dropped the opener 8-4 and lost game two 3-2.

In game two, the Continentals cut Fredonia's lead to 3-2 with a run in the sixth but had the tying run cut down at home. An inning later they put the tying run on base in the top of the seventh on a lead-off walk to Andrew Watson '19 before the Blue Devils retired the top three hitters in the Hamilton line-up to complete the sweep.

In the sixth Robert Morris '17 singled with one out and Dean Rosenberg '18 walked; after an infield out moved the runners to second and third, Jordan Northrup '19 followed with a single that score Morris but Fredonia threw out the trail runner at home to end the inning.

Hamilton's first run came in the top the first; Brett Mele '17 led off with a single and two batters later Ryan Wolfsberg '17 singled him home.

Wolfsberg and Northrup both had two of Hamilton's eight hits.

Fredonia capitalized on three Continental errors to score a pair of unearned runs. Liam Kelly drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the Blue Devils' two-run fourth and two batters later, Quinn Danahy singled in a run.

Fredonia was held to five hits by Jared Weisman '19 and David Rose '16.

In the opener, the Blue Devils rallied from a 3-1 deficit with seven runs over their final two at bats.

Michael Prentice singled in two runs to start Fredonia's three-run sixth and an inning later Kevin Yirinec's two-run triple highlighted a four-run outburst.

Joshua Crocetti, who had five hits on the day, led Fredonia with three hits. Danahy (who scored three runs), Ciro Frontale, and Liam Kelly had two hits each.

Rosenberg singled in Chris Collins '17 and Kenny Collins '17 drew a bases-loaded walk as Hamilton got on the board first with two second-inning runs. After Fredonia picked up a run in the top of the fourth, the Continentals answered in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Kenny Collins that scored Mele.

Mele singled, doubled and scored twice. Rosenberg, Wolfsberg and Kenny Collins had two hits apiece.

The Continentals are back in action Friday facing Lawrence University in a doubleheader in Auburndale.
