Box Score The Hamilton College women's lacrosse team had its six-game winning streak end Saturday in a NESCAC game between two nationally ranked teams. The Continentals, ranked 10th nationally, lost 10-6 to visiting Amherst College (ranked 11th) at Steuben Field.
The Continentals, who are now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC, trailed 9-2 late in regulation before scoring four goals in just over six minutes to pull to within three. Amherst secured the win with a last-minute goal.
Morgan Fletcher '17 paced Hamilton's late rally, contributing to three of the four goals. She assisted on a goal by Margaret Gabriel '16 with 8:01 left in regulation, scored a free-position goal 2:25 later and notched her team-leading 19th goal 1:41 after that. A goal by Hattie Duke '18 closed Amherst's lead to 9-6 with just under two minutes left, but the visitors added an insurance goal with 24 seconds to go.
Amherst (5-1, 2-1 NESCAC) pulled away from an early 1-1 tie to take a 6-2 lead into halftime and push the advantage to 9-2, holding the Continentals to just one goal over a span of 49:24. Rachel Passarelli assisted on three of the goals in that 8-1 run. Kate Wyeth scored a pair of goals and Mary Grace Cronin, who scored the game's first goal, added a goal to put Amherst ahead 3-1.
Hannah Krueger, who scored off a Passarelli feed 13:01 into the first period, sealed the win for Amherst by scoring with 24 seconds left.
Krueger also won a game-high five draw controls (Amherst had a 12-6 advantage overall) with Passarelli and Claire Cagnassola claiming three apiece.
Caroline McCarthy '16, who scored Hamilton's first two goals and assisted on Duke's goal, led the Continentals with four ground balls. Darby Philbrick '18 picked up two and led all players with four caused turnovers.
Christy Forrest earned the win with four saves in the Amherst goal. Hannah Burrall '19 and Hannah Rubin '17 each played a half in net for Hamilton, with Burrall making three first-half saves.
The Continentals return to action Saturday with a noon game at Bates.
