Box Score 2 The Hamilton College baseball team played its final spring trip games Friday, splitting a doubleheader with Keuka College. The Continentals (9-5) lost the opener 2-1 and won a rain-shortened game two 3-0. The nightcap was called after five innings; the doubleheader itself was moved up two hours in an attempt to avoid the bad weather.
Max Jones '19 allowed just two hits and a walk in shutting down the Wolfpack over the five innings of game two. Jones is now 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA.
He held Keuka (4-3) hitless until a two-out single in the third. The Wolfpack used that single, a walk and an error to load the bases but Jones shut down the threat by fanning Keuka's number-three hitter.
The Continentals needed just two batters to take the lead in the top of the first: Brett Mele '17 drew a leadoff walk and Kenny Collins '17 doubled him in.
Zack Becker '16 singled in David Rose '16 with two outs in the second and Robert Morris '17 capped the scoring in the top of the fourth, leading off the inning by hitting his first career home run.
Brian Ferrell '16 finished with two of Hamilton's five hits.
In the opener, Keuka pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and held off a Continental rally in the bottom of the inning.
Hamilton put the tying and winning runs on base when Keuka pitcher Thomas Fowler hit Ryan Wolfsberg '17 and Andrew Haser '17 in consecutive plate appearances, but Fowler retired the next two hitters.
Jake Redding singled up the middle with two outs in the seventh to score Cameron
Reid with the go-ahead run.
Keuka had taken a 1-0 lead in the second on an infield single by Joe Marasco.
Hamilton tied the score on a two-out single to left by Mele in the third. Morris, who'd led off with a single, scored the tying run.
Spencer Vogelbach '18 struck out five in the complete-game effort.
The Continentals are idle until Friday, April 1, when they open a three-game NESCAC West Division series at Amherst College. Friday's game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
