Six straight wins for No. 10 women's lacrosse

Box Score

The Hamilton College women's lacrosse team stretched its winning streak to six, handling SUNY Oneonta 17-5 in a non-league game Thursday at Steuben Field. The Continentals, who are ranked 10th in the latest national coaches' poll, posted their highest-scoring game in over three years.

Hamilton scored the game's first six goals and closed the game on a 9-1 run.

Caroline McCarthy '16 led Hamilton with six points and Casey File '17 and Nicole Lyons '18 each added career-high totals of four points. A total of 11 Continentals recorded either a goal or an assist.

The Continentals' 17 goals marked the most they've scored in a game since beating William Smith 19-10 at Syracuse University's Carrier Dome on March 14, 2013.

Hamilton's defense held the Red Dragons off the scoreboard for nearly 19 minutes to start the game, building a 6-0 lead by that point. Jackie Cuddy '18 scored twice in that stretch, McCarthy scored one goal and assisted on two others and File picked up a goal and an assist.

Oneonta scored the next three goals to pull to within 6-3, then answered two quick Hamilton goals by Lyons with a goal to cut the lead to 8-4. File scored with 10 seconds left in the half and gave the Continentals a 9-4 cushion going into the break.

The Red Dragons netted the first goal of the second half just under five minutes in, but the Continentals held Oneonta scoreless the rest of the way and quickly pulled away from their 9-5 lead as File, Lyons and McCarthy each scored in a 72-second span.

Hamilton outshot the visitors 34-15 with Hannah Burrall '19 and Hannah Rubin '17 combining for five saves. Burrall remained undefeated on the season, raising her record to 5-0 by making a pair of first-half saves. Rubin stopped three out of the four shots she faced after intermission and picked up three ground balls.

The Continentals closed out the game's scoring with free-position goals by Darby Philbrick '18 and Kara Pooley '19.

Morgan Fletcher '17 finished with two goals and an assist, raising her team-leading season total to 21 points.

Hannah Lease '19 scored her first collegiate goal midway through the first half.

Taylor Casey scored three of Oneonta's five goals with Kelsey Cohen picking up a pair of assists.

Philbrick led all players with four draw controls while scoring one goal and assisting on another. Annie Pooley '16 and Taylor Ryan '17 had three ground balls apiece.

Jaclyn Marry made 10 saves for Oneonta.

The Continentals return to NESCAC play Saturday, hosting nationally ranked No. 11 Amherst in a noon game.
