Box Score Hamilton College's Margaret Gabriel '16 scored three goals and added an assist as the nationally ranked No. 11 Continentals breezed to a 12-6 NESCAC win against the No. 17 Bowdoin College Polar Bears at G.T. Bray Park in Bradenton, Fla., on Tuesday night.
Gabriel added four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers as Hamilton (3-1, 2-1 NESCAC) won its third straight game since opening 2016 with a one-goal loss. The Continentals have allowed 12 goals during their three-game win streak.
Morgan Fletcher '17 chipped in three goals, two draw controls and two caused turnovers for Hamilton. Fletcher leads the team with 11 goals and 11 points. Caroline McCarthy '16 recorded a goal, an assist and three ground balls, and Darby Philbrick '18 and Casey File '17 tallied a pair of goals apiece. Hattie Duke '18 scored her second goal in as many games and Meg Cahill '18 was credited with two assists.
Hannah Burrall '19, who leads the NESCAC in save percentage and goals against average, made eight saves for the Continentals. Hannah Withiam '16 led the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Lindsay Picard paced Bowdoin (1-3, 0-3) with three goals, four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Emma Beecher contributed a goal and an assist, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Megan O'Connor posted a goal and an assist, and Annie Glenn tallied one goal and won four draw controls.
Kayli Weiss started in goal for the Polar Bears and stopped four shots. Erin Morrissey played the entire second half and made a pair of saves.
Bowdoin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening four minutes on goals by O'Connor and Picard. Hamilton responded by scoring the last seven goals of the first half and the first two goals of the second half for a commanding 9-2 advantage. Gabriel had all four of her points during the nine-goal run.
Philbrick started the spurt with an unassisted goal and McCarthy tied the score with 22:39 left. Gabriel put the Continentals in the lead for good with 19:41 remaining. Gabriel passed to File for a goal 3:09 later and Gabriel scored on a feed from Taylor Ryan '17 with 14:54 to go. Cahill found File for Hamilton's sixth goal with 12:31 left and Fletcher gave the Continentals a 7-2 lead at the break on her free-position goal with 4:00 remaining.
Fletcher scored again 2:23 into the second half and Gabriel capped the run just 32 seconds later. The Polar Bears didn't get any closer than four goals at 10-6 the rest of the night.
Hamilton takes on Florida Southern College on Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at the same site. Florida Southern is ranked 10th in the latest Division II Top 20 coaches poll.
