The Hamilton College men's tennis team split its first two matches of the spring season over the weekend, losing at NESCAC rival Middlebury College Saturday before bouncing back for a 5-4 win over visiting St. Lawrence University Sunday.
The Continentals (2-1, 0-1 NESCAC) dropped a 9-0 decision to the Panthers, who are ranked third in the latest national poll, and rallied to edge the Saints 5-4 for their first win of the spring.
Hamilton's Jack Vissicchio '17 fought back after dropping the first set in his sixth singles match to claim the decisive victory that clinched the Contintentals' victory.
Vissicchio raised his season record to 4-2, winning the final two sets 6-4 and 6-2.
Two Continentals were double winners Sunday. Eyad Nagori '18 and Jon Cohen '17 teamed for an 8-3 win at third doubles then posted straight set victories in singles play.
Nagori picked up his first win of the season at second singles after a 6-4, 7-6 triumph, winning the tiebreaker 7-2.
At fourth singles, Cohen swept to a 6-1, 6-3 win to up his season mark to 3-4.
Hamilton's other win also came via tiebreaker: Ian Antonoff '16 and Lars Scannell '19 were 9-8 winners at second doubles after taking the tiebreaker 7-2.
The Continentals open their spring trip competition Tuesday, playing the first of four matches in Orlando, Fla., against Earlham College.
