No. 13 women's lacrosse allows two goals in NESCAC road win

Hamilton College's Morgan Fletcher '17 scored three goals and the nationally ranked No. 13 Continentals breezed to an 11-2 NESCAC win against the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Wesleyan's Smith Field on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton (2-1, 1-1 NESCAC) scored the first five goals and led 8-1 with 18:47 left. The Continentals have given up just six goals in their last two games.

Fletcher leads the team with eight goals and eight points. Casey File '17 chipped in two goals and an assist, and Hannah Burrall '19 made eight saves in her first collegiate start.

Kara Pooley '19 scored two goals, scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers for Hamilton. Pooley is second in the NESCAC with nine caused turnovers this season and the Continentals lead the conference with more than 10 caused turnovers per game.

Meg Cahill '18 came off the bench to score two goals, Darby Philbrick '18 posted a goal and an assist, Margaret Gabriel '16 was credited with two assists and Hattie Duke '18 scored her fifth career goal for Hamilton. The Continentals held a 22-15 shot advantage.

Caroline Sgaglione and Dana Mitchell had the goals for the Cardinals (1-2, 0-2). Rachel Aronow picked up an assist and Nina Labovich stopped five shots. Grace McCann recorded one save in 13-plus minutes in goal. Becca Phillips filled the stat sheet with two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Goals by File and Pooley gave Hamilton a 2-0 lead just 96 seconds into the first half. Philbrick made it 3-0 with 14:40 left and Fletcher upped the lead to four goals with 11:26 remaining. Pooley capped the five-goal run with 7:32 to go. Mitchell notched Wesleyan's lone goal of the half 34 seconds after Pooley's second goal. The Continentals enjoyed a 5-1 cushion at the break.

Hamilton clinched the win by scoring the first three goals of the second half. File scored on a free-position shot just 1:13 into the second, Fletcher found the back of the net on a feed from Nicole Lyons '18 and Fletcher scored again on a free-position shot. The Continentals notched goals on half of their four free-position opportunities.

Sgaglione scored the second and final goal for the Cardinals with 16:40 left. Hamilton tallied three goals in the final 13:45. Cahill scored two goals 50 seconds apart -- the second of which was assisted by Caroline McCarthy '16. McCarthy leads the team with five helpers. Duke closed out the scoring with 5:52 remaining.

The Continentals take on No. 12 Bowdoin College for a NESCAC game down in Bradenton, Fla., on Tuesday, March 15, at 7 p.m.
