Box Score The Hamilton College women's hockey team rallied to tie visiting Connecticut College 1-1 in an overtime game Friday at Russell Sage Rink. The two teams, who are both headed to the NESCAC Championship, conclude the series -- and the regular season -- Saturday afternoon.
Box Score
The Continentals, who moved to 11-9-3 overall (5-7-3 in the NESCAC) scored the equalizer early in the third period. The Camels (14-7-2 overall, 8-5-2 NESCAC) saw their seven-game winning streak end, although they're still unbeaten since Jan. 23.
After trailing for more than 30 minutes, the Continentals tied the score 2:16 into the third on a goal by Hannah Bartlett '16. Steph DiPietro '18 carried the puck up the left side and fed a pass across the goal mouth toward the far post; Bartlett pulled the puck back to the near post and pushed a shot past Camel goaltender Katherine Chester for her team-leading 15th goal of the season. She ranks third in the NESCAC.
DiPietro's assist was her second of the season. Sara Taffe '17, whose lead pass to DiPietro started the play, earned her fifth assist this winter.
Sam Walther '18 made 11 of her 32 saves after Bartlett's goal to preserve the tie. Five of her stops came during the five-minute overtime period (which is played four-on-four), including three while Hamilton killed a two-minute penalty.
Chester stopped 36 shots. She and Walther rank first and third in the NESCAC in save percentage with respective marks of .951 and .943.
The Camels took a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period when Katlyn Paiva picked up her seventh goal of the season after a scramble in front of the net. Walther saved a shot by Isabel Gleekel and Anna Bleck played the rebound toward the right post where it went off Paiva's skate and into the net.
Saturday's game, which starts at 3 p.m., will be the final regular-season appearance for the six Continental seniors. The game will also be the inaugural Women's Hockey FanFest Classic as part of Febfest (the College's annual winter carnival).
