Box Score

The Hamilton College women's hockey team opened the 2016-17 season with a 5-1 NESCAC win over visiting Williams College Saturday at Russell Sage Rink. The Continentals scored three goals in the final 10 minutes.

The game marked the program's highest scoring season opener since 2000 and was Hamilton's biggest margin of victory ever over the Ephs.

Katie Parkman '17 had a hand in each of the first four Continental goals and Megan Ahern '17 matched a career high with three points.

Sam Walther '18 stopped 29 shots as Williams outshot the hosts 30-24.

The Ephs held a 21-14 advantage in shots before the high-scoring third period.

Leading 2-1, Hamilton broke the game open, capitalizing on a pair of power plays to score a pair of goals 29 seconds apart.

Emily Williams '19 scored her first collegiate goal at the 10:49 mark and Olivia Hawes '19 followed with 8:42 left to play as the Continentals opened up a 4-1 lead.

Parkman, who assisted on both power-play goals, gave the hosts an early lead, tipping in an Ahern shot 5:20 into the opening period.

She picked up the first of her career-best three assists six minutes into the second period, setting up Kelli Mackey '19 for the game-winning goal. Parkman sent a pass from beyond the left post across the crease to Mackey, who redirected the puck past Williams goaltender Christine Cleroux for her first goal as a Continental. Cleroux finished with 19 saves.

Williams cut the Hamilton lead to one with 3:51 left in the second. Emily Krueger scored the Ephs' first goal of the season with Anna Fucillo picking up the assist.

Ahern closed the scoring with 89 seconds to go, capitalizing on a pass from Maddie Carras '17 for an empty-net goal.

The two teams conclude their weekend series with a 3 p.m. game Sunday.
