The Hamilton College baseball team split a doubleheader with SUNY Fredonia on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla. The Continentals rallied for a 12-5 win in the second game after the Blue Devils mounted a late comeback to win the opener, 7-6.

Hamilton pounded out 23 hits in the two games and is now averaging 10 runs per game over the season's first four contests. Joe Jensen '15 and Ryan Wolfsberg '17 had five hits apiece Tuesday.

Cole Dreyfuss '16 earned the win in game two, evening his career record at 5-5. He struck out four and walked one while allowing five hits over 6.1 innings.

Andrew Haser '17 had career-best totals of three hits, four RBI and two runs scored, collecting two singles and a double. He doubled in his first at-bat, driving in the first of Hamilton's three first-inning runs after Fredonia had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning. Haser went on to add a bases-loaded single in the second and a run-scoring single in the fourth.

The Continentals scored in each of the first five innings to take a 12-3 lead into the seventh. Tyler Reinhold '15followed Haser's first-inning double with a two-run double that put Hamilton up for good. Wolfsberg doubled in a run in the fourth and added a run-scoring single in the fifth. Jensen collected his fifth hit of the day – and eighth of the season – to drive in a run in the fifth.

Reinhold and Griffin Small '17 had two hits apiece. Small, Haser, Jensen, Wolfsberg and David Rose '16 scored two runs each.

Fredonia's 1-0 lead in the first came on a squeeze bunt by Michael Prentice '17 that scored Ryan Carmody '15, who led off the game with a single then stole second before moving to third on a ground ball.

Kenny Johnston '15 singled in Vincent Sherman '15 in the fourth and Patrick Sheehan '18 scored on an infield out in the fifth.

The Blue Devils (3-5) scored twice in their final time at bat with Erik Krohl '15 and Frontale '17 singling in runs.

Hamilton carried a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth of the opener before Fredonia scored seven runs in the final two innings. The Blue Devils collected seven singles and took advantage of four walks and a Hamilton error to score three times in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Ryan Carmody singled in both innings, including a walk-off hit with the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Fredonia loaded the bases in the sixth on singles by Sherman and Quinn Danahy '16 and Hamilton's fourth error of the game. Michael Carmody '18 grounded out to bring in the Blue Devils' first run and Ricky Mendiola '15 followed with a two-run pinch-hit single.

In the seventh, walks to Prentice and Johnston, sandwiched around a single by Sherman, loaded the bases with no outs. Danahy drew a walk to bring in a run and Michael Carmody followed with a game-tying two-run single. Two batters later Ryan Carmody singled in Danahy to complete the comeback.

Rose and Brett Mele '17 hit run-scoring singles as Hamilton used a three-run sixth to take a 5-0 lead. The Continentals scored a run in each of the first two innings with Chris Collins '17 squeezing in a run in the first and Jensen singling home a run in the second.

JJay Lane '15 held the Blue Devils scoreless over the first five innings, retiring seven of the last eight batters before Fredonia's sixth-inning rally began.

Jensen, Rose and Wolfsberg each had two of Hamilton's nine hits.

The Continentals are back in action on Thursday, March 19, taking on Alfred State College in a 9:30 a.m. doubleheader.
