The Hamilton College Continentals finished in second place out of eight teams in the Division III Connecticut Cup Championships at the Wesleyan University Natatorium on Saturday.
Hamilton racked up 498 team points and finsihed just 15 behind U.S. Coast Guard Academy, which captured the team title. Wesleyan was third with 444 points.
Sam Karlson '23 led the Continentals with two event victories. Karlson's time of 24.33 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle was a personal record and moved her up to fourth place on the team's Top 10 Times list. She posted a winning time of 52.64 seconds in the 100 free and was third in the 200 free (1:58.12).
Lucy Hamann '22 took first place in the 50 backstroke with a time of 27.63 seconds. Hamann was runner-up in the 100 back in 59.06 seconds and in the 50 butterfly with a time of 27.03 seconds.
Meredith Gioia '22 accounted for the other victory in the 50 fly with a time of 26.58 seconds. Gioia was third in the 100 fly in 58.90 seconds and seventh in the 100 back (1:01.12).
Irene Keh '24 landed in second place in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.77) and was fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:46.87).
Caroline Shen '24 ended up third in the 50 back with a time of 28.02 seconds and was fourth in the 100 back (1:00.38).
Lucy Elliott '23 gave Hamilton a sweep of the top three spots in the 50 fly as she was third in 27.09 seconds. Elliott was also sixth in the 50 back with a time of 28.49 seconds and in the 100 back (1:01.11).
Madison Goodman-Leong '25 claimed fourth place in the 200 free (1:58.78), fifth in the 100 fly (1:00.06) and seventh in the 100 free with a time of 55.56 seconds.
Emma Nordquist '25 finished fourth in the 500 free (5:15.76) and fifth in the 200 free (1:59.45).
Claire Campbell '22 was sixth in the 50 free with a time of 25.56 seconds and
Katt Withers '25 was sixth in the 100 fly (1:00.69).
Jillian Rhodes '22 ended up fifth in the 100 breast (1:10.18) and
Sydney Tran '24 was seventh (1:10.37). Shen, Rhodes, Gioia and Karlson finished a close second behind Trinity College in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.75. The Bantams edged the Continentals by 15 one-hundredths of a second.
Carolyn Gevinski '22 was Hamilton's lone competitor in the diving events. Gevinski was eighth in the 3-meter springboard with 143.15 points and 10th in the 1-meter board with 139.80 seconds.
The Continentals won't compete again until Tuesday, Jan. 4 when they return to Wesleyan for the third time this season -- this time for a dual meet with the Cardinals.Â
