Nahon '27 scores in overtime, leads No. 11 field hockey to another win

Senior tops the NESCAC with five game-winning goals for the Continentals

GENEVA, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Isabelle Nahon '27 scored on a penalty stroke with 1:19 left in the first sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the Continentals to a 3-2 non-conference win against the William Smith College Herons at William Smith's McCooey Field on Tuesday evening, Sept. 29.

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 11 Hamilton (7-1 overall) won its third straight game – all away from home.
  • The Herons (4-6), who play in the Liberty League, dropped their fourth in a row with three of those losses coming against ranked teams.

How It Happened

  • Nahon had a shot go wide of the cage early in overtime and Eva Bell '29 had another one that was off-target following a penalty corner midway through the 10-minute period. Kelly Janssen '28 made a huge save for the Continentals about a minute before Nahon's game-winner.
  • Hamilton dominated the first half with a 10-2 shot advantage and seven corners to just two for William Smith. Nahon passed to Bell for the game's first goal 6:11 into the first quarter. Olivia Terranova was forced to stop five shots in the opening 15 minutes alone.
  • The Continentals took a two-goal lead 5:12 into the second quarter. Eleanor Cooper '28 inserted the ball on a penalty corner to Morgan Clarke '28 and she hammered the ball towards the cage. Brighton McMahon '29 deflected Clarke's shot into the back of the cage.
  • Abigail Mantione cut the Herons' deficit in half with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter and tied the score with 2:51 to go in the fourth. William Smith had pulled its goalkeeper for an 11th field player about 90 seconds before the tying goal.
  • Hamilton nearly took a 3-1 lead with 6:06 left when a shot by Nahon hit the post.

Notes

  • Nahon is tied for first in the NESCAC with five assists and is second with eight goals and 21 points. She leads the conference with five game-winning goals.
  • McMahon scored her fourth goal in the last five games.
  • Bell notched her third goal this fall.
  • Cooper picked up her first assist this season and the second of her career.
  • Clarke registered her second assist of 2026. She has recorded all four of her points in the last four games.
