White '28 overtime goal gives No. 11 field hockey win over Wesleyan

Continentals extended their win streak to four games as Janssen '28 made 10 saves

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Kenna White '28 scored 1:50 into the first sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the Continentals to a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Season Update

  • The 11th-ranked Continentals (8-1, 4-1 NESCAC) won their fourth straight with each of the last three games going to overtime.
  • No. 13 Wesleyan (5-3, 2-3) had defeated its previous two opponents by a combined score of 8-2.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton's Kelly Janssen '28 made two fantastic saves after a penalty corner for the Cardinals about 40 seconds into overtime. White forced a turnover in the Continentals' defensive zone, split two defenders near midfield, and flicked a backhand shot from the left side of the cage past the goalkeeper, who had charged a few feet off her line towards White.
  • Hamilton took a 1-0 lead off a penalty corner with 7:08 left in the second quarter. Cordelia Thomas '30 controlled the ball in the middle of a scrum in front of the cage and passed to Olivia Waruch '28, who redirected it inside the right post.
  • Wesleyan tied the score exactly one minute later on Leila Feldman's goal off a pass from Meera Patel.

Notes

  • Janssen tied a season high with 10 saves and has a save percentage of .825.
  • White has scored a goal in each of her last two games.
  • Waruch scored for the first time since the first game of the season.
  • Thomas recorded her first collegiate point.
  • The Cardinals owned a 17-12 shot advantage, including 6-0 in the third quarter.
  • The Continentals owned a 9-7 edge in corners. The teams combined for 11 of them in the second quarter alone.
  • Hamilton has won 10 of the last 12 meetings with Wesleyan. The Cardinals defeated the Continentals 1-0 in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Division III championship.
